Arriving from the East Coast in 1978, with USCG husband Butch and their four children,
Janice has “done it all” as a dance teacher and choreographer. From JDLT’s “Guys & Dolls”,
to High School musicals, “Jr. Miss” Pageants, fashion shows, University Ballet classes, and
creating Juneau’s longest running tourist show ~ “The GOLD NUGGET REVUE”, Janice has been a
key-player in the world of dance and entertainment. 1980-81 she traveled throughout Alaska
to produce the Alaskan Cancer Research Telethon, raised over 1/3 million dollars and gave 100%
of it to cancer research. In 1987, she was selected “Alaska’s Mother of The Year”. She is a
past-president of Juneau’s BPW Association, a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary, and a lifetime
member of Dance Educators of America.
Throughout all these years, Janice has personally taught all her dance classes (20-30 per week)
and encourages her dancers, of all ages, to be fit and have fun. In 1999, in Los Angeles, she
was awarded “Outstanding Dance School” by World Association of Talent/Modeling & Entertainment.
Her dancers consistently win trophies in regional, national, and international competitions.
So, get out those old tap shoes, get in shape for sports, or sign up your potential “star” and
enjoy “the world of dance” with Janice D. Holst! Parents are welcome to all classes. Watch
for DANCERS AGAINST DRUGS in October,
THE GRUMPSICLE in December and the SUMMER DANCE ACADEMY in June.
It’s never “too late”!
The most exquisite form of dance technique that requires the strength of an athlete
and elegance of royalty. It is the one form of dance that enhances posture, sports
performance, discipline and concentration.
There are appropriate levels for all from PreBallet to advanced Pointe work.
Involves Barre-work, center floor combinations and French terminology.
A great way to get (and stay) in shape. Involves total warm-up, across the floor
work and combinations. It’s fun! Classes for Teeny Boppers 7-9 years (new),
through teens and adults.
Classes begin in September and finish in May. There are 2 sessions –
September to December and January to May for payment purposes.
Payment is due on the first week of each session. For those taking several
classes per week, you may divide tuition payments (See Payment Schedule).
NO REFUNDS after the session begins. Moving out of town/hospitalization would be exceptions!
ATTENDANCE ~
It is your responsibility to attend class. There will be NO refunds for classes missed.
Check to see if there is a suitable class for make-up.
CANCELLATION ~
In each session, there is a “Built-In” week off in case Mrs. Holst or the weather needs it!
Hopefully we just keep dancing!
DRESS CODE ~
In order for a dance class to be effective, it is imperative that the “DANCER” be dressed
properly for class. That means leotards, tights, proper shoes, hair tied up and no jewelry
or gum. Please check dress code chart for class requirements.
If you are a more “advanced” dancer, please arrive 10-15 minutes before your first class to
warm up.
SUPPLIES ~
All dance supplies should be ordered through our school so quality and style are
consistent. This way you won’t spend money twice if we use our “basics” for a
performance and yours are “different”
Please label all items. Supplies must be paid for in advance.
OUTGROWN ITEMS ~
Bring them in so someone else may buy them to use “one more time”!!
