December 3, 2011

Webeditor's note: The dates for the Spring Show have been tentatively set for May 19 & 20, 2012. Check back here later for more details from Janice D. Holst on production for the show.

Unfortunately, with the last Grumpsicle held just this past May, there is no Grumpsicle planned for this holiday season. But some dancers are currently preparing for their usual holiday performances at senior residence centers.

June 2011

Greetings Superstars, Moms & Dads -

Congratulations on their two great Grumpsicle performances! I've had a lot of positive feedback. Can you believe that the Grumpsicle got married to Lady Luck and promised to be "Good" and he wants to live in Las Vegas? Unbelievable!! Of course, little Niko says "Don't worry Mrs. Holst, the Magician just hypnotized him. The Spell will wear off and he'll be BAD again! He'll be back!" Others just rolled their eyes and said "Married...?? Uh Oh Baby Grumpsicles! What am I going to do now?

I'd be interested to hear your comments about the show. I really appreciate how all the parents pitched in behind the scenes, food, practicing, etc... THANK YOU!

If you have any photos that you took at the rehearsals and/or shows, especially ones of your groups possibly with the Grumpsicle so that we can have a great display. Please send your pictures to bugayongfamily@gmail.com and make the subject "Grumpsicle Pictures".

Please turn in all receipts for reimbursement. Also, lots of tights and supplies were passed out "on trust" so please check whether you still need to pay. Unfortunately supplies are Not Free. You may mail the check to: Janice D. Holst; 206 Behrends Avenue; Juneau, AK 99801-1416.

Grumpsicle, Lady Luck the Bride, and Janice D. Holst

Summer Classes? We will do two nights a week for adults. We want to do a Summer Dance Workshop (9am-5pm for a week or two) with dancing, crafts, and fun for different ages. Please let me know your summer travel plans if you'll be in town in July.

Again, you all did a wonderful job and we hope you have a fun-filled summer. See you in September for sure!

Greetings Dancers & Parents ~

April 2011

Well, it looks as if Spring has finally sprung!! It’s really been fun setting the “PLANS’ in motion for our May production of “THE GRUMPSICLE”. Scenery has been designed (we just NEED a few parents to help build a few things and some that would like to HELP paint and glitter) and of course there are lots of props, headpieces, and stitching to be done….even some things at class time……JUST LET MINDY AND DAWN know. It’s fun!

Believe it or not, even with all the notices e-mailed and HERE at the desk, several parents have not returned the permission slips and costume order forms!! All tuition, supplies, and costumes must be paid in full at this time so please check the top of your refrigerator, your dancer’s bag or the backseat of your car…wherever. I appreciate your cooperation. Thank you!

Tickets will be handed out on Saturday April 30th. They will be in packets of 5 Saturday and 5 Sunday and one price of $10 each. And everyone needs a ticket (except the “STARS!). Please have a parent come and “Sign Them Out”.

HOW do you get a FREE ticket????...Easy, here’s the deal….
Sell ten (10) tickets….get one (1) FREE
Sell twenty (20).tickets..get three (3)FREE
Sell two (2) Sponsor Ads…get two FREE
Get one (1) FREE ticket for each additional Sponsor Ad

There will be Awards for the Top Sales presented onstage for most ADS and TICKETS so go out and let the world know YOU are going to be a STAR in THE GRUMPSICLE!!!!

Who can you ask? Family, friends, take a neighbor who doesn’t get out much, out-of-town guests here for Graduation, Sunday school friends, Cub Scout or Brownie Troops (get a Culture badge), cheer up your Doctor, hairdresser, or anyone you do business with……they’ll enjoy it, especially if they SEE their AD in the program as a proud Sponsor of Fine Arts and all the wonderful families involved with their children!

Don’t forget, we’ve been doing this for thirty- four years and every year is a NEW adventure and this year promises a new twist!!??!! Oh well, I could go on forever so if you have any questions, feel free to call me! I promise you, “There’s no Biz like Show Biz!”

March 2011

Looks like Spring may be arriving soon now that we've had a break in the weather.

DINING WITH THE STARS: We had so much fun last year during this elegant event with music, dancing & even a fashion show that we wanted to do it again this year. However there was a conflict in the scheduling so we will have to reschedule the fun for some time in the near future. We will keep you posted.

SEATTLE DANCE COMPETITION: Seven of our dancers will be attending the DEA Dance Competition and Workshops in Seattle on March 18-21. They are excited, nervous & "ready to go". Please wish them all GOOD LUCK! It should be lots of fun! We will keep you posted on how things are going.

SPRING BREAK - No Classes – March 17 thru March 26. Have fun & enjoy the break.

JDHS DRILL TEAM SHOW: On April 1st & 2nd at JDHS some of our dancers will be performing at the Annual JDHS Drill Team. Its always exciting to see all the energetic entertainment.

“THIS IS IT!” at JDHS the weekend of May 20th is our big show. You won’t believe what’s going to happen to the GRUMPSICLE this time! It should be a great show & lots of fun for everyone. We have started measuring for costumes, already. If you and/or your dancer hasn't been measured please be sure to let Mrs. Holst know. We want to make sure everyone gets measured since costumes must be ordered in a few short weeks.

Purple "Grumpsicle Permission" forms have been handed out & are due back by April 2nd. If you didn't get one yet please let us know so we can get one to you.

Also, we need to start on getting those Sponsor Ads. Make sure to pick up some forms & get your favorite businesses to help out. These must be sold to help keep down the price of tickets for our families & friends since the JDHS Auditorium is very expensive. The high seller will get a wonderful prize. More information at classes.

Please let us know if you’d like to help out backstage or even onstage… we love our volunteers! We are all going to have to help out to make this a great show!
SATURDAY - May 28 will be the last day of classes for the Spring 2011 Session.

Just remember "THERE'S NO BIZ LIKE SHOWBIZ!" More information to follow on the items in this newsletter and more. PLEASE feel free to contact me if you have any questions and if you email me - please include your phone number!! I much prefer to talk rather than write.

December 2010

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We have a new member in our dance family… Valleri has made me a Ballerina Sock Monkey. She needs a name so I thought it would be fun to have a contest with everyone putting their favorite name in a hat & then we draw one out, so think of a good name!

Well, this session will end on Saturday December 18! Our next session will start Saturday - January 8, 2011.

Since we are not doing our big show in December - not enough rehearsal time available at JDHS - we will be doing a mini-show at the Pioneer’s Home with a few of the classes performing. I will announce which groups are performing soon.

Our big show is now scheduled for May 21 & 22. You won’t believe what’s going to happen to the GRUMPSICLE this time! It should be a great show & lots of fun for everyone.

I’m sure most of you are all paid up, but if you think you may have an outstanding balance due for this session, please check with us. It would be great to end 2010 all paid upJ!

Just remember "THERE'S NO BIZ LIKE SHOWBIZ!"

PLEASE feel free to contact me if you have any questions and if you email me - please include your phone number!! I much prefer to talk rather than writeJ

Have a Delightful December, a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
Dancingly Yours…

Janice D. Holst

Classes get underway on September 4th -

Check back here later for an update from Janice D. Holst about this year's new instructors and classes.

Class fee schedule will be posted shortly.

Special note from Mindy and Dawn - March 24

Please pass the word amongst your fellow dancers that dance classes will resume this Saturday March 27 2010 as regularly scheduled. We have some wonderful dance teacher substitutes that have helped Janice out in the past and are more than happy to be helping her once again. These teachers have danced with Janice for a very long time and want to make her proud.

Janice wants us to make sure that everyone is dancing and staying in shape. She is doing well at Northwest Hospital in Seattle. She is having Physical & Occupational Therapy 8 hours a day 5 days a week and then 4 more hours on Saturday. She is working hard so that she can get back here & see how well all her dancers are doing.

Thank you all for your prayers, please keep them up as the healing process for Janice is not yet complete.

See you on Saturday ready to dance!

Haines Trip:

A very special Thank You to our brave & loving chaperones (Agnes & Salud Elizarde, Valleri Collins, Tasha Buzzell, Estela Holst, Trista Anderson and our driver Butch Holst). Mr. & Mrs. Uddipa and Winona Carrillo also drove their cars and kept us warm! Newsletter for September 2009

Greetings Dancers & Parents -

And WELCOME to our World of Dance! Lots of activities and new classes, but first...

Mayor's Lifetime Achievement Award - September 13, 2009:

A great big THANK YOU to all of you who have sent several nice messages, gifts, and hugs for the AMAZING award I received from the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council! I was very surprised and speechless (for the first time ever)! However, I share this honor with my wonderful family and so many of you who have been part of this success either "on-stage", "behind the scenes", or in the audience! THANK YOU!

Classes:

Classes are looking good already! We had to open a new class for "new" 4-5 year old Creative Students. It is Tuesday at 5pm (may move up to 5:15). So, if you know of any potential "stars" who can make that time slot, send them to me. Ilove starting kids off on" the RIGHT FOOT"!

New "GUYS" Hip-Hop. Sign-up to learn the coolest style around. Grades 5 through junior high (Advanced on Tuesdays at 8pm) will be Tuesday at 4pm or Wednesday at 5:30pm and will begin in October with Matt showing some of his B-Boy moves!

Teen Ballet Technique is Thursdays at 4pm. Great for teens who are just getting interested in cheer, gymnastics, drill team, ski, and -- of course -- the "real die-hards" who are striving to perfect their performance level. Oh, yeah -- its fun, too!

Red Ribbon Week - October 24 through 31:

Please pick up separate sheet with LOTS OF INFO from front desk at the studio..

Dancers Against Drugs:

For the 22nd year, we will be performing our "JUST SAY NO!" songs, dances, and skits at the schools, State Office Building, and the red Ribbon Rally" at the Mendenhall Mall on October 24th from noon to 5pm. Your dancers (ages 7 through high school) are encouraged to participate. Classes are free and the first class will start this Friday, October 2nd at 4-6pm and on Sundays from 2-4pm (just a few weeks, but fun!). Please invite a friend or a few to learn a POSITIVE way to "JUST SAY NO!" It is a real problem here in Juneau and, yes, we do need a few parents.

October 15th and 16th, Thursday and Friday - Dancer's Workshop 8am-5pm

NO SCHOOL - So, its a great time for Dancer's Workshop at the Studio. Dances styles, videos, crafts, and lots of fun! Sign up! - Space is limited - Ages 6 through high school - All levels. Cost is $52.50 (including tax). Sign up at the front desk at the studio or email me at holst@gci.net ASAP.
