JANICE D. HOLST SCHOOL OF DANCE NEWSLETTER August 2007 |
|
I hope this note finds you all in the best of health and ready to start the new DANCE SEASON.
It's hard to believe Summer is almost over.  With all the traveling and family activities, it was really difficult to get a lot of dancing in but we still do have news and information to share...
In July in Portland, there is the Thunderbird Dance Camp, which is attended by approximately 400 dance/drill team members from all over the Northwest each summer.  After several days of intense classes, routines, etc.. they select an All-Star Team and then "Miss Thunderbird"!   Well I'm happy to say Congratulations to our own Amanda Endicott.  Amanda has been my dance student since she was 5-6 and won several medals in Dance Competitions and Scholarship awards throughout the years. She and her sisters, Angela & Sarah are regulars in the Grumpsicle and Dancers Against Drugs Program, and are always ready to dance the "extra mile"!
In August, Kayla Parker, my dancer since she was not even 4 (How did that happen?) is getting married this month.   She's also has "done it all"  ...   (medals, Grumpsicle, Summer Dance Academy, Dancers Against Drugs, etc.) went off to college and has returned to Juneau.   She is now a JDHS Dance Team Coach, teaches Hip-Hop Classes for me and has a full-time job. Congratulations & Best Wishes to Dan & Kayla!
This Saturday, August 11th I will be at the Nugget Mall from 10am-4pm to register students for classes.   However, class will not begin until the first week of October, Saturday the 6th at the VFW hall (behind the Baranof Hotel).   Yes.....   you have all of September to adjust to school and enjoy the last few nice weekends of Summer and then we dance!
The real reason we are getting a late start is because I will be in Seattle with my husband Butch who is scheduled for colon surgery in early September.   Many of you know he was diagnosed with colon cancer last summer which had 5-6 lesions spread to his liver (Stage 4).   However, since then he's been on chemo, had two heart stents and whatever...   but when he underwent tests in late May... much to the amazement of his doctors, the lesions on his liver disappeared and his "numbers all look great" so they want to see about removing the original tumor (if its still there!).   The Oncologist rolled his eyes and said "it's possible but not probable".   But whatever...   I believe in the prayer power and I hope you'll keep him in your prayers.
We will have been married for 46 years on September 30th and I still don't have him trained yet...   I need more time!!!!
So, come by on Saturday so we can order supplies, set up schedules and see dance photos on my new Digital Frame!   Bring some new friends or drag back some old ones!   OOPS...   I'm not referring to my adult dancers...   though I do want to keep them dancing too!
October ~ Red Ribbon Rally "Remember We Are ALASKA's Outstanding Make A Difference Day Honoree's".
TBA ~ The Grumpsicle
TBA ~ March/April ~ Dancers Against Drugs Go to DisneyWorld ... Let's Do It!
Please respond, so I can get some ideas of how you all are doing. Please include phone numbers with your emails.
Dancingly Yours…
